As it is in Heaven pt 2

December 13th, 2017

As we finished up the end of the movie we started watching during the last class, it ending up being a fantastic movie. The lead cantor finally felt love, opened up peoples hearts with music, and so much more. Throughout all of the hard times in life, things start to look up. Patience is key and that is something I need to keep in mind. I am a very impatient person so watching this movie and discussing topics like this in class has open my mind to other values.

As it is in Heaven

December 11th, 2017

We are watching a movie call "As it is in Heaven" A Swedish movie about a man who is grown up by music. His passion as a kid made him very successful, although he didn't feel happy with that. As of now this movie is very interesting and has a very close relation with my life, as I have been in choirs all my life. All of the things that he has taught his "choir" are very similar to what I have been taught. Being one unit is very important and everyone is a piece to an overall puzzle. This is important with work. Finding your calling and what you're good at makes the job much more successful.

Overall Reflection

December 10th, 2017

These past 4 months have been nothing short of spectacular. Meeting new friends, traveling on the weekends to other countries, and having the sense of freewill. Yes, there definitely would be some things I would change and or do differently but that all about the experience. So without further ado here is some small glimpses of my time abroad....

Sagrada Familia: Barcelona, Spain

Camp Nou: Barcelona, Spain

Wimbledon Centre Court: London, England

Rome, Italy

Chefchowen, Morocco

Paris, France

Prague, Czech Republic

Girona, Spain

Dublin, Ireland

All of these and many more have impacted me dearly to give myself a better understand of other countries. Learning a new language, meeting strangers, and taking classes which might be different than normal, all are learning experiences that we should never take for granted. In 11 days I depart from this incredible experience but I will always hold onto the things that I was given here.

I will be telling people how incredible studying abroad is, because everyone should be able to live this lifestyle one time in their life. Thank you Barcelona for everything. Te amo mucho.

Study Abroad Narrative

December 4th, 2017

As I hop off the plane for the first time in Europe I realized I was in for a very interesting adventure. Tired, jet lagged, and unknown I had to figure out where I was going to be living for the next four months. When the taxi came to pick me up from the airport, I knew I had to talk to him in Spanish but I didn't exactly know what to say. I tried to look it up on google translate, but I didn't have any cellular data or wifi. Basically I tried to say the street in Spanish only to show him a picture that my leaders gave me. Now, my unknown is just getting started...

The cab pulls up to my apartment complex I'm hoping my host mom will speak a little bit of english so I can figure out and understand what she will need from me. NOPE. She didn't speak on lick of english and I was forced with using a google translator and speaking by pointing. As my first day wasn't so great, I really didn't feel like this place was for me and I was already regretting the decision of studying abroad for 3 1/2 more months. A couple hours later my roommate comes in and he speaks Spanish very well and everything seemed to be fine again.

Looking back on this day, as I leave for back home in less than two weeks I really have grown and learned from these lessons. My Spanish has gotten a lot better and I'm even trying to have conversations with my host mom. I'm pushing myself to achieve new things and really take in the culture difference the most I can. Everything can learn something new everyday and by pushing yourself to make you a better self is always beneficial in the end.

Beach Day

October 15th, 2017

Today, we didn't have class because of the protests going on in Barcelona. So instead of going to class on that given Wednesday, we decided to have a beach day on that next Sunday. There was going to be games, team building exercises, and everything beach related. As I'm looking back on that day I am realized two things that is very helpful and will be good for the future.

#1 is have fun and enjoy time with people who you don't know. This creates a factor of stepping outside our comfort zones and taking chances.

Finally #2 is time management. We had a certain time that we had to be at the beach and it was quite a bit away from where I live, plus it was every early in the morning. This certain circumstance was beneficial in being on top of this and becoming more of an adult, haha.

Motivational Monday

December 4th, 2016

As our time in class almost comes to an end we are learning about the value of life and how we can teacher our children and the younger generation around us the fundamentals of life. We watched this Ted-Talk about a man who is telling people to teach their kids about entrepreneurship and how they can achieve the goals that interest them.

Poster

November 29th, 2017

Today we worked on a art piece of our home country. We added a lot of information about celebrities and the president of the United States who has been very prevalent in the news lately. It was interesting working with people from the same country and getting their insights on ideas. This aspect will be going into our marketing plan scheme, talking about external markets.

The Constant Gardener

November 27th, 2017

For the second half of class we watched a movie call "The Constant Gardener". Although we watched bits and pieces of the movie and didn't catch the some of the main scenes, it was a really interesting movie. What I learned the most from this movie is about never giving up, and figuring out every detail until you know everything. In this case, he was trying to figure out the death of his wife. Even through the horrors of a death very close to you it needs to be figured out so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Guest Speaker

November 21st, 2017

Carlos Holemans

Today we had a guest speaker who was very interesting and very rewarding to here from. Carlos Holemans is a well known person in the advertising industry in which he has won over 100 international awards from it.
http://www.fichajes.net/files/la_liga_santander2_1.jpg

One of the ideas he was talking about was how Santander was teaming up with FIFA to be a main sponsor for LaLiga. It was interesting learning about how the video was made as well as how it is supposed to portray to the audience.

What I took from this was that in order to be successful and hard working you need to feel the emotions of others and base your information from that.

Interviews

November 15th, 2017

JOB INTERVIEW
  • Requires four pieces of information
    • Why are you here?
    • What brings you to our company?
    • What kind of person are you?
    • How much are you going to cost?

This is ultimately the questions you're going to be asked in an interview so it is very important to know your facts and the personal growth you will bring to a company.

European Curriculum Vitae

November 13th, 2017

Today we worked on resume in both our native tongue and a European format. It was very cool to see the differences between the two resumes and to also see how other countries create their resumes. I found this class period really interesting to see the progress we are making in the class and to also make sure these resumes are all good and ready for us to take on the world!

Resumes

November 8th, 2017

Today we worked on resumes and cover letters. These are very important for our future because the execution of these professional documents can outline where in life we are going to go. It was very helpful being able to do these in class as we have someone of higher authority giving us direction and helping us with making these letters shine.

How Many People Could You Know?

November 6th, 2017

We watched a Youtube video in class today called "Six Degrees of Separation" which was the way in which people could meet other people through people they know. I know that this is very confusing but it makes sense once understood. The person giving the speech was telling his audience that if everybody had 100 contacts or people they knew those 100 people will have 100 contacts each which could build your contacts. One example he talked about was how many people would it take for him to be in contact with the Pope. His answer was around 3-4. This had me very surprised as it seems like his authority and higher representativeness would become harder for outsiders to get in contact. He said that he knows someone in a church that knows a bishop who knew the Pope in school. It's crazy how that all works.
What I've learned from today's class was that it doesn't matter where you come from "the world is so small" and if you work hard and find the right people you will be able to do anything in life.

Personal Logos

October 30, 2017

Making a personal logo and slogan was on the task for today. The logo part is about drawing something that speaks to you. Things you like to do, images you like, something that you draw a lot, basically anything that you look at and can trace it back to your personal lifestyle.

The logo I have drawn is my signature with an arrow and an anchor. The reason I have made this is because I like to feel grounded as a person, but at the same time I want to soar into new boundaries just like an arrow would.

As for my slogan would be something like "Stay grounded but soar in new adventures" or "putting your name in the right direction". Now these might not be the greatest slogans I will put more time into finding a better one, it all means something important and I've realized that this class period was just trying to do that.

Questionnaire Type of Day

October 25, 2017

Class today was very personal in understanding what are futures should be as well as personal questions that will really make you understand life. We completed a Myers Briggs questionnaire regarding who we are as a person. This 63 question questionnaire was interesting to see what professions would I be good at as well as people who have the same characteristics as I do. What I learned from this questionnaire was that I am in the correct field of study, and all of my hobbies and things I like to do correspond with who I am as a person and what my future holds.
ESFP
Extravert(75%)  Sensing(31%)  Feeling(6%)  Perceiving(19%)

  • You have distinct preference of Extraversion over Introversion (75%)
  • You have moderate preference of Sensing over Intuition (31%)
  • You have slight preference of Feeling over Thinking (6%)
  • You have slight preference of Perceiving over Judging (19%)

Motivational Feedback

October 23, 2017

Today I'm going to talk about feedback through a experiment that we did in class. I'm not quite sure what the game was called so I'm going to call it "Tennis Shot". So basically the objective was to throw a tennis ball into a basket blindfolded and see how many tennis balls you can make in 30 seconds. The goal of the audience was to give feedback to the person participating in the game, but we had to follow a guideline each time someone participated.

Here was our rules:
1. The first person who played the game we were only to give them positive feedback, even if the missed.
2. The second person who played the game we were only to give them negative feedback. Saying mean things and making fun of them regardless if they missed or made the tennis ball.
3. The third person who played the game we were supposed to say nothing. Let that person play the game in complete silence.
4. The fourth person who played the game we were giving them positive and negative feedback. Either cheer when they make it or boo when they don't make it.

In the end we came up with what the best feedback is to get at a job. Though many say all positive its actually the final one, positive and negative. The reason for this is because we want our other employers to help us out. Negative feedback makes that person stronger in their frame of work. So as I now know this I will implement this into my personal life. Making sure that when I'm getting negative feedback I will push myself harder and learn from those bad choices I have made.

Guest Speaker

October 18th, 2017

Executive Skills

Today we had a guest speaker who was here to talk about executive search. Ignacio Macaya is a business who runs a business called Macaya Consulting & Executive Research. This business helps out clients who are looking for an employee in the higher up executive levels of the company. His business helps save the clients time and effort looking for someone theirselves as they still need to run their business and production.
As the presentation was mainly Q & A we had a lot of time to ask him questions and really understand what he does, and how important this type of job is. It's interesting how much work goes into recruiting potential employees. He says telling us that it could take as little as 1 month or as long as 18 months, it all depends on the company.
Some of the things that I learned for myself to improve on in the future if I am ever put into a situation which I am competing against others for a job I will need:
  • Great interview skills
    • Eye to eye contact
    • Body Language
    • Summarizing question (don't speak too much about one topic)
    • Relate your answers to the company goals
    • Know about the company you could be potentially working for
    • Look the part
    • Show you're motivated
  • Linkedin Profile
    • Make it informational
    • Well structured
    • Professional writing
    • Stand-out compared to others

Story Of My Life

October 16, 2017

Self Bio

Today we learned about how to write a self biography but not the normal self biography that I have personally wrote in the senior year of high school. Our self biography are more leaning towards how we have perceived our life, what have we noticed about ourselves that we can relate back to our childhood. This self bio is important if you're ever asked to give one to a potential job in an interview, they will observe this biography to see what your true assets are and what they can notice about you as a person as well.
I wrote my self biography on how my competitiveness, being involved, and my activeness have all played a crucial role in who I am today. As I continue to write it, memories pop into my head that I have been very thankful about. These memories are who I am today without any of the things I was involved in and the people I have met along the way, I would be a way different person that I am today.
These boys have been such a role model in my life and nothing would be the same if I hadn't joined soccer. Most of these guys have been playing soccer with me since we were about 8 years old. It's awesome re-seeing these memories and thinking about all the good times we had. Having a work force or clienteles who make me feel this same exact way would be beneficial for me as for everyone else.

Attitudes, Beliefs, and Identity

Breaking the Personal "Ice"

What a productive day it was in class today. We had to find out what our person and professional traits were, and it really opened my eyes to see what my true potential is. There are so many things that I display as well as need help on, and this help solve some of those things.
Influential people was also talked about, and my list is very heart warming to me, all these people have showed me how to live life and to achieve in everything I do. This class period and all of the ones in the future will help me grow to who I want to be as well as how I want other to view me.

Vision, Mission, and Values

October 9th

Being Impactful is Pure Gold

Our final project in Human Resource Management requires us to make a Marketing Plan Scheme. Today we started talking about what our powerpoint will begin with:Vision, Mission, and Values. What I learned is very essential to who I should be in the future. This is very important because our common core is what's going to strive us to be better in the future. We also watched a very interesting movie called "The Guardian" which speaks leadership on so many levels. This movie will definitely one that I will watch whenever I'm feeling down about my career or my leadership.

Here is the trailer:

Assessment Centers

October 4, 2017

Motivational Wednesday?!?

Assessment centers are way in which a company can assess future potential employees without having to meet with each of them one on one. We were given one of two articles to read to broaden our knowledge about assessment center because some classmates, including me, had no idea what this was. The article I was given brought us to a personal level and talked about how they work and the pros/cons about having assessment centers in businesses. I now have a good picture of what assessment centers do and how to prepare for them in the future, if I ever have to be in one.
Secondly, we watched part of a movie called "The Method." This movie was about seven potential employers going through the assessment process and they will be eliminated if the company doesn't seem a like certain person isn't fitting for that position. In the end one person will be left, giving them a job in this firm. We haven't watched the whole movie yet, but I hope to learn more about the movie that I can trace back into my personal life.
Overall I learned that even though a position in a company looks very appealing and the wage might be very good, you're not fit for every company. Know your limits and present to the company the true you. If you don't end up doing that and you get the job, you won't feel like yourself which will be stressful from the beginning. Assessment centers are helping out the HRM to find the perfect candidate, you don't need to be better than everyone. Just be yourself and the world will take you on a trip of a lifetime.

Internet = Power

2nd October, 2017

How Much Does The Internet Know About Yourself?

Class today started off with a eye opening commercial, recored in Belgium (I will post the link at the bottom) about a man "reading" random peoples minds. At least thats what I  thought it was at first. He started off grabbing random people off the street and telling them he was going to read their minds for a movie they're shooting. As the people agreed he brought them into a tent and was going to read their minds, in which they probably thought it would be a light notion of how they're feeling. But it got a lot more personal, which made the video way more interesting.

Here are some of the things that we was "reading" from people minds:
1. Boyfriends name (First, Middle, Last)
2. Best friends name (First, Middle, Last)
3. Where they live
4. Where they work
5. What school they attend
6. What vehicle they drive

Then he took it up a notch:
1. Bank Account number
2. Transactions
3. Bank Balances
4. Exactly how much someone spent last weekend
5. How much someone is selling their house for
6. Exactly every digit on someones credit card

As people were kind of freaked out by all of his mind reading, a drape falls beside him and on the other side of the drape were people dressed in all black, going on the internet and taking peoples identity from them. You could see everything about that specific person, and those people probably had no idea that people could do that.

The commercial ends with: "Your entire life is online, And it might be used against you"

This commercial was very interesting to me and knowing that people can know a lot about your life is a very scary thing. Always be aware of what you post on social media because your jobs, and your future could be ruined because of one post, 5 years ago.

Creativity in the Work Force

September 27th

You Can Have Fun At Work?

Today we learned about how we as "human resource managers" can implement some team building exercises with our fellow employers in a future business. By doing this you will gain some friendships between co-workers as well as the willing to be competitive all while having fun. This exercise would take place in a remote area that is either far away/out of town or in a enclosed meeting room after hours. The reasoning for this is because we want the employers to feel like their natural selves, not looking to empress the boss or the managers ahead of them, this would be more of a friendship "everybody is equal type of day". This will bring positivity and fun into the work force in the future!
In class we did an assignment where we got 12 nails and had to try to balance all of the nails on one nail, which was nailed into a piece of wood. When observing the task it looks like a very hard thing to do, especially when there are so many nails to stack. Fortunately, I already knew how to complete this task so I had to keep my mouth shut and hope my team could solve it, maybe with a few hints ;). It was very cool witnessing people taking initiative and trying after many, many, many, failures to finally look at it in a "think outside the box" mentality. In the end we completed it and this was the turn out!

Be YOU-nique

September 20th, 2017
Creativity

Creativity is the ability to create something or being able to have inventive ideas. It's so cool to see people's creative skills, but it seems like people are scared to be judged by their abilities nowadays. Whether it's art, music, dance, photography, or many, many more ideas, everyone has got to love to do something. Our generation and generations in the future are in a hard stance because schools don't implement these "arts" as much as other subjects such as mathematics, literature, etc. Being creative isn't a bad thing and what we learned from a TED talk in class today tells us exactly the same thing.

The man that we listened to was very interesting in the way of telling stories and grabbing the audiences' attention. Putting seriousness and humor into one overall topic was inspirational!
Here are some ideas that stuck out to me:
- Put yourself in a position where you don't know and don't want to know what is going to happen next
- When talking about conflict use humor to make tasks easier
- Don't be frightened of being wrong
- Intelligence is interactive
- Making mistakes isn't a bad thing
- Take chances, it's better than sitting back and watching
(Pictured is my dad and I at a church camp that we volunteer at every year)

In my personal life being creative came very easy with the help of my father. We loved building things out of legos, duct tape, and even wood/metal. His creative mind and talents is easy to see each and everyday. Being engineer of a family business he has to build things from 2D to 3D. The fact that his personal creativity is so awesome he can attack any opportunity given to him, and thats what businesses need. If you show creativity in the work force you will not only stand out from your competition, but you will help your employee explore new opportunities that will benefit you and your company!

Change your Words, Change the World

18 September, 2017

CYW, CTW

{ Today in class we learned about making a difference in ourselves. Finding your true passions, striving from those passions, and the ultimate personal definition of success }

Being you and making decisions you love, are things that everybody should want. There's no better feeling than waking up doing something you love to do each and everyday. This will be beneficial in the future because you will keep persisting at a job, that in your opinion, will never get boring.

Connecting with this theory we also looked at what our interests are. We are basically up for 15 hours each day. So we have to find time to do something we love or are interested in.

Now we have to break that up into smaller parts...

- Working for 8 hours
- 1-2 hours driving (some longer)
- Eating three meals (2-3 hours)

There is 12 or so hours that your day is already filled up with! Those 2-3 hours that are free should be "me" time. "Me" time is doing things that you love to do that will make your life less boring. For me, it's playing or watching sports. Sports are my go to with making friends and enjoying my time away from everything. If you find that distinguishing "me" time go out and enjoy yourself. Hopefully it will make you feel better about yourself and keep your mind sane!

Here are some of my favorite activities:
 Futból (Soccer)
 Tennis

 Pickleball

It Only Takes 17 Muscles To Smile

It Only Takes 17 Muscles To Smile

Schafer-35 11x.jpg (This is one of my high school senior pictures. Every time I smile my eyes squint. My mom really doesn’t like that, haha)
Today, September 13th, 2017 was my first day in Human Resource Management. One thing that stuck out to me in this class was a video that our professor showed us. It was a music video from the artist, Sia, relating to the song “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” The overall concept of this is that the world is a beautiful place with so many opportunities, but it all depends on your mood and how to perceive things. So SMILE!
Smiling is a great asset that everybody can have, which can change the way people think about life. Smiling is so easy to do, it’s uplifting, friendly, and a total mood changer. As a little hint, go outside, to work, class, a sporting event, and come with a smile! People will see the genuine you, and you should feel better about yourself as well.
Also, studies have shown that smiling during work increases productivity! So instead of being sad and angry at work, have a smile. Your boss and co-workers will appreciate it too!
